Time Calculator

A bane of this club and every golf course in Britain is those days when slow play ruins golf for everyone.

The truth is that there are two kinds of slow play. One is systematic slow play, this will crop up every week and can be caused by Starters sending out too many groups. As a club we have little say over this kind of slow play, it is a traffic jam due to sheer volume of traffic situation.

However, the other kind of slow play in non-systematic, it is caused by poor etiquette by players, a lack of consideration, and a (blind) belief that taking more time over a shot will actually decrease your score. This kind of slow play is the kind that we as a club need to stamp out. Please take care not to fall into this trap. A few axioms are:

  • Your place on the golf course is directly behind the group ahead and not directly in front of the group behind.
  • Avoid slow play by being ready to play when it is your turn.
  • When on the green have al ook at the line of your putt whilst others are putting or preparing to putt (if possible).
  • Walk quickly between shots and mark your scorecard whilst waiting to play your tee shot (not on the green holding up the game behind).
  • Do not waste time with excessive practice sweings.
  • Wave through any players if you are spending time looking for a ball.

  • To help with this quest for proper pace of play St. Meddans offers you a time calculator to see the length of time that a round of golf should take.
